Yeah, that's right...it was for CORY! After all, he's about the only one who hasn't experienced a newborn baby yet. Sandy's sister, Adriana, and her husband hosted about 70 people who came bearing gifts and best wishes for the expectant parents. The shower was grand and glorious, a big gala event that lasted for hours and hours. Lots of fun, lots of friends and even more family, ots of food, and lots of gifts from people who love them so much; great memories to last a lifetime.<br />

It's almost halfway through the first month of the new year, and I'm just now posting my first post of 2011. It's been a busy year already. We started the year with a trip to Gatlinburg, TN, with our son and his family from Orlando, FL. There were 33 of us altogether, and most of them spoke Spanish with English as a 2nd language. Most of the family is from Colombia, and some of them still live there but were able to visit the USA for the holidays. I learned some new words (some cannot be repeated in public or in front of children), had lots of laughs, and felt special to be included in this wonderful group of people. It's always a treat to be with them, and by the end of each visit the language barrier seems like such a trivial obstacle.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV88vK85fj80R7kiFu2wl4P2wdgsGZ46ig_QJ5rUoVK1mq3ZkHd0Gu1UUmradNwWR0Afv10xlO1Esg1bsw_NkE-33D0Nio_k8o3I92XK2c8JuhYA2xyulqCPsHaV6h2OoPuv4ZxlACeP4/s1600/IMG_0427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV88vK85fj80R7kiFu2wl4P2wdgsGZ46ig_QJ5rUoVK1mq3ZkHd0Gu1UUmradNwWR0Afv10xlO1Esg1bsw_NkE-33D0Nio_k8o3I92XK2c8JuhYA2xyulqCPsHaV6h2OoPuv4ZxlACeP4/s400/IMG_0427.JPG" width="400" /></a>Isn't this a great-looking family?</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">We are so blessed! </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So little time, so much has happened. First, the owner of my favorite yarn shop, <strong>Betsey Macholz</strong>, sold <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com/">Baskets of Yarn</a> to <strong>Patty Frame</strong>, who in addition to being a reputable and hardworking CPA is the Crochet Diva of the yarn community in Charlote. First things first, the shop had to move. <strong>Patty</strong> and her husband, <strong>Gary</strong>, and her mother, <strong>Nancy</strong>, along with the help of lots of "elves" found a fantastic location in Charlotte with lots of space and light and windows, and I just couldn't be happier. The store hours have increased to include Tuesday through Saturdays, late on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with 2 <strong>knit nights</strong> and 2 <strong>knit mornings</strong> every week. Rumor has it that the store will be open an occasion Sunday, too! The Grand RE-Opening was Wednesday, December 1, and continues through the week. The store was crammed with knitters and yarn enthusiasts all day long on Wednesday. So much fun! Classes began yesterday with my <strong>beaded lace ornaments</strong> and will continue through the month of December with quick "little luxuries" for gifting. Saturday will be a big day with <strong>Sue Dial</strong> and <strong>Patty</strong> teaching all day long. I hope you will take some time and treat yourself to a visit to the new store. Be sure to say hi from Margaret when you go in.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">In the meantime, we've had big news on the family front. My son Cory and his wife Sandy are expecting a baby in early May! We already welcome little <strong>Tiffany Rose</strong> into our family and can't wait for her arrival! She's already claimed her own space in our hearts and we pray for her healthy development and safe delivery when the time comes. We anxiously await the arrival of her family here for Christmas later this month.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

It hasn't been all that long this time, right? I spent the day at Baskets of Yarn in Charlotte attending a class taught by Deanna. She has created a chevron-style scarf using bits of sock yarn, and it is luscious! We traded bits of sock yarns (about 20 yards or so), and she taught a join that was new to me, making it much easier to bury ends and not worry about them at the end. The scarf is colorful and happy looking, makes me smile just to look at it! Pictures later...Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-42224238567776734042010-10-29T10:15:00.000-04:002010-10-29T10:15:22.519-04:00Hello, again....<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Has it really been over a year since I last posted? Lindley Marie Rose is now 13 months old, walking, talking, laughing, and has the sweetest personality of any one-year old I've ever known. She is the bright spot in the day, the light of our lives. Her first birthday celebration was the party of the year, complete with decorations, lots of people, and decorator-style food. Her mom and dad went all out, and it was definitely a party to remember. (I hope Lindley remembers it.) Here is the linen dress I knitted for her first birthday. You can find more information about it here: <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Quilter300/baby-dress">http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Quilter300/baby-dress</a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMdjqNUZ0MTDTJjB6xE41iNpq8YyvaZoLHii2T3prLKM2QwMG02VZC_-dRhFtIA9xWz31Rj8xyu46_nsx-8R4IJPx7XPe7_AO5RsktnIex3FXRO7fELUaD2xu2_fqACRipR04wD3i_86M/s1600/DSC_0185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMdjqNUZ0MTDTJjB6xE41iNpq8YyvaZoLHii2T3prLKM2QwMG02VZC_-dRhFtIA9xWz31Rj8xyu46_nsx-8R4IJPx7XPe7_AO5RsktnIex3FXRO7fELUaD2xu2_fqACRipR04wD3i_86M/s200/DSC_0185.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

We assigned each family unit a night to prepare dinner, played games, sang our hearts out to Beatles Rock Band and relaxed togther in the heat (and wind) of the beautiful NC coastline. It was a vacation to remember. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

My good friend Diane came to the hospital and helped me prepare for surgery and kept Gordon company while I was "under". She was definitely our "angel" that day. I'm still recovering, definitely improving every day, and thankful to God's gift of modern medicine and physical therapy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Lucas started his Junior year at Lincoln Charter High School in August. He also played soccer on the school's varsity team. He has elected to play winter soccer this year, so we anxiously await the schedule for practices and games. He really keeps us running up and down the roads, following his busy soccer schedule.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">September brought its usual hectic activity with Lindley's first birthday, Lucas's 16th birthday, Gordon's and my wedding anniversary, and a knitting retreat thrown in for good measure! Baskets of Yarn celebrated it's first fall retreat the last weekend of September this year. It was great fun seeing good friends after many months and learning some new knitting techniques. My good friend Maggie Farrell and I "tag teamed", teaching a sweater class together, and I taught a beaded lace scarf. The hot, hot summer finally began to cool off that weekend, making it much more comfortable to be working with wool.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Eleven quilters lived for an entire week in a 5-bedroom cabin atop Beech Mountain. We participated in 10 different classes during the week, learning new techniques and interesting projects while working on quilts that we brought with us, too. We took turns preparing meals and enjoyed the mountain air and changing leaves. Here are some of the projects we completed: </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh_NL-FlAsgdpucveBffbGpv6abAuAPYLHzMyV0hb9tNJ_DaQOBIUmCAKmsvNTTZ4GfVOrnfhJzapfapoiwTZNTiwUrx6IzkdUneQ1Ra_SPqWYOCmkRDiA43j7dnlwyl_A_wQQVtIL8UM/s1600/Copy+of+DSC_0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh_NL-FlAsgdpucveBffbGpv6abAuAPYLHzMyV0hb9tNJ_DaQOBIUmCAKmsvNTTZ4GfVOrnfhJzapfapoiwTZNTiwUrx6IzkdUneQ1Ra_SPqWYOCmkRDiA43j7dnlwyl_A_wQQVtIL8UM/s200/Copy+of+DSC_0050.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKG-pE6NgtEFAJy7BGfa5DsG80SVSDkoSE0o3vP7-id1huDZHcvufjS-gysQb8yVZLF3EgnsHsjzMMyzuZ-osgE0PAhNea8sTSsZox2sEzUOlLeWPRRzVhAnZ9jRZQU_PbSNj0hZC8Ow8/s1600/Copy+of+DSC_0055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKG-pE6NgtEFAJy7BGfa5DsG80SVSDkoSE0o3vP7-id1huDZHcvufjS-gysQb8yVZLF3EgnsHsjzMMyzuZ-osgE0PAhNea8sTSsZox2sEzUOlLeWPRRzVhAnZ9jRZQU_PbSNj0hZC8Ow8/s200/Copy+of+DSC_0055.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBQig2fYU9jXvapBRSELYTlkep9-_tOa2TROeBW65yBzNBqzAaqH5RNY_xIeDu2WXWcuAUkAkTxIbFqPwDhyyTZLNIpl0BGMKLtWjIxj4eyln4nHrSO-HpEj8S8xgmTKTGLQIc-n0Z1RY/s1600/DSC_0154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBQig2fYU9jXvapBRSELYTlkep9-_tOa2TROeBW65yBzNBqzAaqH5RNY_xIeDu2WXWcuAUkAkTxIbFqPwDhyyTZLNIpl0BGMKLtWjIxj4eyln4nHrSO-HpEj8S8xgmTKTGLQIc-n0Z1RY/s200/DSC_0154.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipWLjIeS-CvIASz-NxPHfMvEQYu_bYR_VghPxHa19gCZYb18Jxm_e2KseVGM5ZVd81xCUw3RD0ihV80WMIn8KVviILg1NrZBrIA-He7wMmsHUBb0ACP1lXYtDaayp4TtOIpsPezXwz_Gk/s1600/Copy+of+DSC_0059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipWLjIeS-CvIASz-NxPHfMvEQYu_bYR_VghPxHa19gCZYb18Jxm_e2KseVGM5ZVd81xCUw3RD0ihV80WMIn8KVviILg1NrZBrIA-He7wMmsHUBb0ACP1lXYtDaayp4TtOIpsPezXwz_Gk/s200/Copy+of+DSC_0059.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeXIiWkAl9vaa3PctggxSDnskhh3oBsajEBVbEpX2vUqutHtVIXv2OjfRI7nD9Y54EzKNSzKWj2-kwvJpIri-5pGBsQh4XheeTe8Pa6Ud-SCAduK-4HcpnRjUyKlddfv01BBBJAy3Ur_g/s1600/Copy+of+DSC_0070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" nx="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeXIiWkAl9vaa3PctggxSDnskhh3oBsajEBVbEpX2vUqutHtVIXv2OjfRI7nD9Y54EzKNSzKWj2-kwvJpIri-5pGBsQh4XheeTe8Pa6Ud-SCAduK-4HcpnRjUyKlddfv01BBBJAy3Ur_g/s200/Copy+of+DSC_0070.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">The next "big event" for me was the Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival (SAFF) last weekend in Asheville. <a href="http://saffsite.org/">http://saffsite.org/</a> is an annual festival of all things fiber including animal competition, fiber artists, vendors and classes. Sue Dial of Harvest Moon/Clay Cat Designs allows me to help out in her booth where we sell her hand-dyed roving, handspun yarn, polymer clay jewelry and stitch markers, and wet and needle-felted items. He called from his home in Orlando to tell me that he and his wife Sandy are expecting a baby! This will make 14 grandchildren for us! We are absolutely thrilled, and they are "over the moon" with excitement and happiness. This will be their 2nd child; their son Jesus Alfredo is 12 years old and is very happy to welcome a new baby into their family. Can you imagine how much love there is for this unborn baby already? I've already started knitting a blanket, even though it will be several weeks before we know the gender of this baby. But between you and me, I can't wait to find out the baby's sex so I can start knitting dresses or rompers.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I'll try to do a better job with this blog for those who enjoy reading about my chaos that I call life. On the docket now is the Myrtle Beach Quilt Party in January 2011, and the 2011 Winter Knitting Retreat with Baskets of Yarn. Of course, you can expect to be reading about babies for awhile, too.</div>Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-21195560430343682262009-09-28T19:40:00.005-04:002009-09-28T20:15:21.777-04:00Life and Times of Sheba the Kitty<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT-SJYO7yw7IkGS2sgBJhSvRLtmXEueWfKU4cU6Tqf8G-WiNvXJ_YNosddsSEs0GlNiRc6dJum3ChbGnP6g62Z6RHx2z9GjMXjdOrDSIidqlQZZGNLA-tFoKY1BmicCTRNouyNI8ZcA0M/s1600-h/IMG_0393.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 307px; height: 229px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT-SJYO7yw7IkGS2sgBJhSvRLtmXEueWfKU4cU6Tqf8G-WiNvXJ_YNosddsSEs0GlNiRc6dJum3ChbGnP6g62Z6RHx2z9GjMXjdOrDSIidqlQZZGNLA-tFoKY1BmicCTRNouyNI8ZcA0M/s320/IMG_0393.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386667694599828402" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-size:130%;">The adventures of Sheba the Cat</span> continue. After all, we had a 3-day weekend because teachers at the school needed a “work day” (don’t they work every day?), and it was our wedding anniversary and sort of close to son’s birthday. He wanted to invite a friend and celebrate his 15th birthday. Our ‘cat sitter’ friend, Sonja, was also out of town for the weekend, so we decided to be brave and leave the kitty locked inside the house with her litter box, food and water for the 3 days and 2 nights we would be gone. She usually has to fend off raccoons and other critters in order to eat her catfood when we're away, and then Sonja rescues her and gives her more food every day anyway. So this time we felt we were doing her justice so she wouldn’t have to fight the raccoons for her food.<br /></div></div><br />She decided, left to her wits, to be very brave and kill one of the other critters who lived in our house, too. The critter was (and I do mean WAS) a skein of yarn that I planned to use in the dress I was knitting for Lindley Marie. I’m certain the skein of yarn attacked her first because she really had to fight it hard to persevere. I say that because the untorn label was on the top step of the stairs along with the largest wad of yarn (looked a lot like over-cooked spaghetti), but the yarn had literally been strung down the stairs, around the corner into the dining room, around all 4 legs of the table and all 16 legs of the dining room chairs, back up the stairs and around the legs of the bed in my bedroom. She must have also been fearing for her life, because she had bitten through it in one place. It took me over 2 hours to untangle it and wind it into balls (yes, plural). Thank you, Sheba, for protecting us from that killer yarn animal! And, no, I didn't take any pictures. I was too frantic to rescue my yarn before it really was "dead".<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RnrlEbQmdC3mYQ4FcTW9VxvTAoZuDYmnt0sQeAe7ZKdxiT8mvJ280T4NFDEYlwSGMuc4Qz7xb3eMXM2Eo7olOzMp_E5ppVk9Sb8Kw9RB6Z50vzGw-BgjhKS3pw5i-B0bQ8PKWZXsy9M/s1600-h/DSC_0118.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 253px; height: 168px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RnrlEbQmdC3mYQ4FcTW9VxvTAoZuDYmnt0sQeAe7ZKdxiT8mvJ280T4NFDEYlwSGMuc4Qz7xb3eMXM2Eo7olOzMp_E5ppVk9Sb8Kw9RB6Z50vzGw-BgjhKS3pw5i-B0bQ8PKWZXsy9M/s320/DSC_0118.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386671295631964482" border="0" /></a> <span style="font-size:130%;">W</span>e did sneak a couple of peeks at the new baby on our way to and from the beach (wasn't that convenient??), <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwcqjQXZwsq4b1xGCxco2hJHhxH4kIJShpSaBmwQ2aG0vWQErWenofvaT_jYFLQmlIhzdSFSp3tfHcwtRN01RSLTX0kozDi2dK6EJnIxTbKLN2jhyMDZH1powko3IzldS3limxSNk1zEY/s1600-h/DSC_0138.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwcqjQXZwsq4b1xGCxco2hJHhxH4kIJShpSaBmwQ2aG0vWQErWenofvaT_jYFLQmlIhzdSFSp3tfHcwtRN01RSLTX0kozDi2dK6EJnIxTbKLN2jhyMDZH1powko3IzldS3limxSNk1zEY/s320/DSC_0138.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386671308963743762" border="0" /></a>and she's just as gorgeous as ever!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihfaP3C2fW9sgDkb0v_5xnkCrIhJu5L89ZZVaAWatmmv7MS01EjIQHb_RHg_3inC2TFS4SPAJz0WWZxBhRTfIgY0icdVVfcMAK-CJpLu_6clw8nq7Os6Al3EnV_pbcUkO6TGRaao4_Zho/s1600-h/DSC_0117.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihfaP3C2fW9sgDkb0v_5xnkCrIhJu5L89ZZVaAWatmmv7MS01EjIQHb_RHg_3inC2TFS4SPAJz0WWZxBhRTfIgY0icdVVfcMAK-CJpLu_6clw8nq7Os6Al3EnV_pbcUkO6TGRaao4_Zho/s320/DSC_0117.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386671300404884050" border="0" /></a>Smartest, cutest, most loved, certainly the most photographed child ever, I'm convinced!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRvFImnIaQKUO-8VyNo-EsPT57tfeHCuuKyp4LVjtNOSvhOBURocqiThjZ9ZPY4qt9l9eN8mv8aDgapYFFSVnxeubh2UI0Lq_6pOrlct6ZyP867wd8bQqYyX89Yp7UAYoA1FZJ-c8eMPU/s1600-h/DSC_0146.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 231px; height: 347px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRvFImnIaQKUO-8VyNo-EsPT57tfeHCuuKyp4LVjtNOSvhOBURocqiThjZ9ZPY4qt9l9eN8mv8aDgapYFFSVnxeubh2UI0Lq_6pOrlct6ZyP867wd8bQqYyX89Yp7UAYoA1FZJ-c8eMPU/s320/DSC_0146.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386671321056893506" border="0" /></a>But the thing that makes me most proud is the way her parents have both stepped up to the plate for her. She is the center of their universe, never out of their sight, and meeting her every need is their only desire. The most fulfilling part of parenthood for me has been to watch my own son experience all the feelings I felt for him when he was born, and knowing how happy it makes him to be a father. And Ashley is a natural-born mother, so instinctive, persistent, and tender. She appears to be calm in the face of every storm, and I commend her for taking the drama out of motherhood (so far). I'm sure that Lindley Marie will put some of that drama back into their lives as soon as she is able. Little girls have a way with drama, after all.Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-69387348029150099832009-09-16T20:20:00.007-04:002009-09-16T20:40:29.594-04:00Let me introduce you...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobYLK-PTIWzSxjNTPFnEXDHwtsdNXXCKwros29ake-d0ENKPIOcjrzf3bikvvNHXI50oPOdxqI49cQ5huA0DlaErcAocWxPLc6KFe2WuE_eJ1Dfkfalx21m9Zfw5A304kj2VdiPNlK2E/s1600-h/DSC_0069.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 439px; height: 291px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiobYLK-PTIWzSxjNTPFnEXDHwtsdNXXCKwros29ake-d0ENKPIOcjrzf3bikvvNHXI50oPOdxqI49cQ5huA0DlaErcAocWxPLc6KFe2WuE_eJ1Dfkfalx21m9Zfw5A304kj2VdiPNlK2E/s320/DSC_0069.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382226965077674978" border="0" /></a><br /><br />...to our new granddaughter, Lindley Marie Rose. As Christians we are taught not to anticipate, but to experience the moment and enjoy the process. Still, it is very hard not to anticipate the birth of our baby granddaughter; we are so excited about her arrival and look forward to every second with her, holding her, hugging her, watching her grow. Being parents, we know the wonder of the moment we first lay eyes on our own children and the immediate emotional response to that magical realization when the myth becomes real, the dream comes true, the waiting is over.<br /><br /><div></div><div><span style="font-size:130%;">We pray for Lindley</span> Marie Rose, that she will be born healthy, that her birth process will be easy for her and her dear mother, that her mother's suffering will be mercifully shortlived and not unbearable. We pray that God in His infinite wisdom, compassion and love will wrap His comforting arms around all 3 of them, Ashley, David, and Lindley, keeping them safe and pull them through the storm, and that they will feel His presence in that moment when Lindley finally greets her worldly parents face-to-face. <span style="font-family:georgia;"><strong>Amen.</strong></span></div>Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-79334205713374634022009-08-13T20:10:00.006-04:002009-08-13T20:55:18.904-04:00A baby is coming!!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1RoDn4lPWUN8eCrBjuGT4JQYIpnxwql91dKh_rCvD0mlt2QxYEb6KkVP_eGjfq2NFN_eOgKF5Guov-tBtKPfbrvnRYoA6p226PbRsb24mdeUFl-3NxXjisIG6e8ptHuT1ib37f9_isuk/s1600-h/DSC_0020.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 236px; height: 197px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1RoDn4lPWUN8eCrBjuGT4JQYIpnxwql91dKh_rCvD0mlt2QxYEb6KkVP_eGjfq2NFN_eOgKF5Guov-tBtKPfbrvnRYoA6p226PbRsb24mdeUFl-3NxXjisIG6e8ptHuT1ib37f9_isuk/s320/DSC_0020.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369614248547780722" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;" ><span style="font-family:verdana;">It's only weeks</span></span> or even days before the arrival of our new granddaughter, Lindley Marie Rose. Isn't that just the most beautiful name? Just rolls off your tongue, Lindley Marie. I wonder what she'll be called? Her father called me this morning to report that she weighs 7 lbs. 12 ozs. ( in the womb) and will gain 1/2 lb. each week before she is born. With her due date still 3 weeks away, she's liable to rival her daddy's birthweight when she arrives.<br /><br />The excitement is building! A shower will be held on Saturday in Graham at the home of David & Kim King, son & daughter-in-law. I hope to sneak a peak at the decorated nursery on Friday and maybe make a trip to the hospital in Raleigh where Lindley will be born. It will be a "trial run" before the actual event.<br /><br />While the new parents are busy nesting and resting (while they have a chance), I'm knitting and sewing up a storm. I told someone that I've been preparing for the birth of this little girl all my life! It's so true. After bearing 3 sons myself and marrying into a family dominated by males, and even having 3 granddaughters that were already walking and talking , it's a gift to have a newborn baby girl join the family! Here is a sweater I knitted in a little little larger size so she can wear it next winter (2010): <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQz3f6V8WWIKHCSxaAq_R1ApQkzbZIxcVZKz_n0pOw65ewEVwQ7fP6fkwgfRnDtHCwp_uA_S5dxHYMHySaUywC2fv0xS0GJsvtXxckoplcuXIhSHwW1eU6VARkBeCe2gnljMPF2NMyf2c/s1600-h/DSC_0018.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQz3f6V8WWIKHCSxaAq_R1ApQkzbZIxcVZKz_n0pOw65ewEVwQ7fP6fkwgfRnDtHCwp_uA_S5dxHYMHySaUywC2fv0xS0GJsvtXxckoplcuXIhSHwW1eU6VARkBeCe2gnljMPF2NMyf2c/s200/DSC_0018.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369608488438821554" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This is a small "lovey" blanket for her to squeeze next to her face as she falls asleep for naps:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKEtqfFyxLpVYQqfJsmMRiSHxSHPasbXghbXs_PvDJsOiAZeqABbJ9ydDe8QRQFQfQWmdzdwWcosxWR367QEaRTPAwB_WkxNgQ88LIKvti6C5c8mEH4IMOLsDPQ248rIXVYw45m6N9wHo/s1600-h/DSC_0026.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKEtqfFyxLpVYQqfJsmMRiSHxSHPasbXghbXs_PvDJsOiAZeqABbJ9ydDe8QRQFQfQWmdzdwWcosxWR367QEaRTPAwB_WkxNgQ88LIKvti6C5c8mEH4IMOLsDPQ248rIXVYw45m6N9wHo/s200/DSC_0026.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369608530482542306" border="0" /></a> It's made with the Plymouth Yarn "Poppin" and looks like a string of pom poms. Although we were technically in the same area (though Lucas could never tell us where he was), we didn't ever see him (didn't even really talk to him), and were only able to communicate with him via text messaging on our cell phones. When we finally accepted the fact that he didn't "need" us, we relaxed and completely enjoyed ourselves. <br /><br />We really didn't DO anything, and that's hard for us. Gordon sat on the deck overlooking one of the majestic scenes in the Great Smokey Mountains and caught up on some reading while I spread out several layers of beautiful batik fabrics and cut, cut, cut. It rained a lot, but the wet weather didn't damped our spirits at all. Relaxing in a log cabin atop a mountain in the Smokeys and listening to the rain hit the metal roof is my idea of "heaven on earth." We did make one short trip to a fabric store where I was able to find pink and brown fabrics for the new granddaughter's "Welcome Home Quilt", and we attended a craft show at the convention center in Gatlinburg. Aside from that we did no shopping or sightseeing and just enjoyed our own company.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHN3Ku5jK1PFiG5VkPejYuVGt68-Hz4hZ_4kmvLGO_uKpxNb36JuSa5hH3hN3884hHdDlu5D8f4KNo7KXfX74GNaNbCw0mvHqxN4IRM4UT-xMoJkTyydHZX9w0lLGZEU7mteeWl35Cm38/s1600-h/IMG_1035.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHN3Ku5jK1PFiG5VkPejYuVGt68-Hz4hZ_4kmvLGO_uKpxNb36JuSa5hH3hN3884hHdDlu5D8f4KNo7KXfX74GNaNbCw0mvHqxN4IRM4UT-xMoJkTyydHZX9w0lLGZEU7mteeWl35Cm38/s320/IMG_1035.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359894743341561138" border="0" /></a>When I checked my email after returning home, there was a photo from David showing the curtains I made hanging in Lindley Marie's bedroom. Even the cat is adjusting!<br /></div><br />And now it's time to concentrate on the new baby. We are traveling east today to help with the delivery and assembly of some furniture for the baby's room. How exciting! And we are planning a small baby shower on Saturday, June 13, here at the lake house. The new mommy and daddy are interviewing and touring possible day care facilities--boohoo! Oh that we lived close enough to take care of her ourselves! My heart breaks to think about a stranger holding and cuddling with my new granddaughter. The wedding quilt is finished (hurray!), thanks to the help of some very dedicated friends who really came through at the last minute. How would we survive without friends?? I don't think I could. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8L_hoCaEV6YsIGDmJPS7W9VjUjcVJnHP7S-h1iQkY-w6NlsZXf_6hWOXfVw-RRS7r7JDX9nY_1LhIB3PEUCtls5vwxexILCxArlE6aQRKZgLiw7IIsh6L_ZlCwJaiNnDEcBmExg6CRgs/s1600-h/DSC_0104.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8L_hoCaEV6YsIGDmJPS7W9VjUjcVJnHP7S-h1iQkY-w6NlsZXf_6hWOXfVw-RRS7r7JDX9nY_1LhIB3PEUCtls5vwxexILCxArlE6aQRKZgLiw7IIsh6L_ZlCwJaiNnDEcBmExg6CRgs/s400/DSC_0104.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326883366879494658" border="0" /></a> I couldn't even have taken this picture if my friends weren't helping me! Anyway, the quilt is my original design, "Crystal Hearts", and I'm hoping to publish the pattern soon. Aside from that, I've knitted another pair of booties for the little darling (we finally found out she's a girl!!) and completed a baby blanket knit from organic cotton by Debbie Bliss. Now if I can just stay out of the baby departments at all the stores until she arrives my bank account might survive. I never realized how cute baby girl clothes are! I've never been able to shop for little girls before, so this is really a novelty for me.<br /><br />We're very excited about the wedding on the first Saturday in May. Family members are coming from far and wide, and it will be a nice reunion with those we seldom see. The rehearsal dinner is all set, food and flowers ordered, tables and chairs rented. We're just waiting now for the big day. Here's a photo of a purse I made for Ashley, our DIL2B:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkAzZcjgVYdiMcIAEE2mI6VtoBUkS6SjR2tU3PFxd-7BuFeMcILzt__6Y9XISOOP9Dw4IekukPvJdwUmgDGXqOt97xxLS8ATgKp9aeTU74SewxzN9GG_Y010rOhO__AEMBwWyhYQ8OdSQ/s1600-h/DSC_0008.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 278px; height: 183px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkAzZcjgVYdiMcIAEE2mI6VtoBUkS6SjR2tU3PFxd-7BuFeMcILzt__6Y9XISOOP9Dw4IekukPvJdwUmgDGXqOt97xxLS8ATgKp9aeTU74SewxzN9GG_Y010rOhO__AEMBwWyhYQ8OdSQ/s200/DSC_0008.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326895090748874530" border="0" /></a> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUaowZjDJZRXYrX0pyf8uOvXkdHE_PkvIScTHyQnkuaR4Erp7lmQVxcK9ea0x1xM95cKBR1PhlCdBCIbmTWRZaurkdu2C7fdZMghZdTe-AF9W0k50X-894KycwlhDHm1qs4nKEgZ69x-M/s1600-h/DSC_0010.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 281px; height: 185px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUaowZjDJZRXYrX0pyf8uOvXkdHE_PkvIScTHyQnkuaR4Erp7lmQVxcK9ea0x1xM95cKBR1PhlCdBCIbmTWRZaurkdu2C7fdZMghZdTe-AF9W0k50X-894KycwlhDHm1qs4nKEgZ69x-M/s200/DSC_0010.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326895090152935730" border="0" /></a><br />Can you tell that she's a fan of NC State University? The color is just beautiful! If you'd like for her to dye or spin some yarn for one of your one-of-a-kind projects, you can contact her at <a href="http://www.blogger.com/suedial@gmail.com">suedial@gmail.com</a>. She does custom colors and will match anything you want. She also does custom color work with polymer clay, so you can have buttons and earrings to match your new hand-dyed sweater! Isn't that the coolest thing you've ever imagined?<br /><br />She also sent me some wine glasses that she customized with polymer clay for me. They are dishwasher safe. These are especially unique and my favorite glasses of all! I just love entertaining with them because each glass has a unique design, thus eliminating the need for "wine glass charms". They met the usual crew, friends and family, and while they didn't get to see many turkeys, they did have a good time.<br /><br />While they were out of town I took advantage of an empty house and invited the Popular Girls for a mini-retreat. Because it's such a busy time of year for everyone. Only one other Popular Girl was able to attend, for the same reason I had a free weekend--her husband was also out of town on a hunting/fishing trip. So Debbie and I were here being popular all by ourselves! We knitted, talked, knitted, ate, knitted, drank a little wine, and just did what Popular Girls do. It was great fun, though a little quiet and tame for a Popular Girls Retreat. We decided that we are the most Popular Girls (whatever that means).<br /><br />Lucas will be going to the <a href="http://www.usnwc.org/">National Whitewater Center</a> with his science class on a special field trip. He's looking forward to rafting the rapids. I hope they don't get absolutely drenched, but I'm not holding my breath.<br /><br />I've joined <a href="http://www.twitter.com/">Twitter</a> to see just what all the fuss is about. You can find me there as Quilter300. I'm still trying to decide if it's worth the time and effort. I love <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a> for the fellowship of knitters, crocheters, spinners, and other fiber artists, patterns, advice, sharing of projects and photos, and inspiration. I wish I could find a similar venue for quilting. Let me know if you find one.<br /><br />Our Easter was blessed. We were able to attend Sunrise Service with our son and his family, and then more family arrived later in the day. We are fortunate indeed. When it rains, it pours. </span>We can't have just one thing at a time in our life--we have to have everything happen at once! And we've had so much rain I feel like my feet should be webbed! It's been awhile since I posted (my New Years' resolution already broken), but for a very good reason--too much going on to have the time to post. It's a good thing, though. God continues to bless us.<br /><br />We're having a new grandchild--a girl!! After 12 grandchildren, only 3 of them girls, we're getting another granddaughter! I think it's our turn to have a girl in the family, and God is good. We're all so excited, we can't wait to hold her, love her, and play with her. I've already started knitting and planning for the quilt(s). <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9-HnAa2cloa14rkzvDvJwdNWzN4o-XpQpCFla7CgaN48g5GTgG1f5yWmU2Wzp-ohjH_AeYpzBev0aT8SrI5qxxfPY1naSxKSv_oqR39j00T9dr5o6g-bcSWBtEJUXPuBXdulqIdfMU9Q/s1600-h/DSC_0003.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 132px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9-HnAa2cloa14rkzvDvJwdNWzN4o-XpQpCFla7CgaN48g5GTgG1f5yWmU2Wzp-ohjH_AeYpzBev0aT8SrI5qxxfPY1naSxKSv_oqR39j00T9dr5o6g-bcSWBtEJUXPuBXdulqIdfMU9Q/s200/DSC_0003.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323056275713628514" border="0" /></a> I knitted a red blanket before I knew she was a girl, knowing that she would be attending NCSU Wolfpack football games, rooting for the home team. My son David will be married to Ashley on May 2. They are an adorable couple, and we are so happy for them. Plans for the wedding are sailing along, rehearsal dinner is all set. David almost missed the shower due to a cancelled flight out of LaGuardia airport into Raleigh, but he managed to rent a car and drive straight home. He was about half an hour late for the shower, but at least he made it safe and sound! We were all glad to see him arrive. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgjfFEaBIT4pzS6d2Yw8o3wVNSth4QcC23yRbi-TdPFldbg2GfEB1v0a8QoZD_r824BqGsUDSRJq5rKomtY0VdwY8JUEOQ3u038i4kOnWbSTnYRXlErUjy7rPIqztsU8cCNcSPUn9ghKM/s1600-h/DSC_0071.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgjfFEaBIT4pzS6d2Yw8o3wVNSth4QcC23yRbi-TdPFldbg2GfEB1v0a8QoZD_r824BqGsUDSRJq5rKomtY0VdwY8JUEOQ3u038i4kOnWbSTnYRXlErUjy7rPIqztsU8cCNcSPUn9ghKM/s320/DSC_0071.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323064335248319026" border="0" /></a>They received many nice gifts from friends and family, including this quilt made by Ashley's grandmother. I hope your Easter is blessed.Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-14907764947689644722009-03-16T17:36:00.009-04:002009-03-16T18:18:01.781-04:002009 Winter Knitting Retreat<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIWxPRDzHZ7nxtazZaGVn01k2CkEOoMVz8c6S9OT1h_sA6Sag51_IxdAMJ8ZauXWqKqFLbY6_LIMpNJNwmCHSYvIDZq5FtTWqn4TZArxYvl6khscil80laj343cX8R_M_o4QnEPbeNEd4/s1600-h/DSC_0078.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIWxPRDzHZ7nxtazZaGVn01k2CkEOoMVz8c6S9OT1h_sA6Sag51_IxdAMJ8ZauXWqKqFLbY6_LIMpNJNwmCHSYvIDZq5FtTWqn4TZArxYvl6khscil80laj343cX8R_M_o4QnEPbeNEd4/s200/DSC_0078.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313908873159416706" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:180%;">Baby, </span><span style="font-size:180%;">oh baby!</span><br /><br />What a great time we had in Boone this year at the 2009 Winter Knitting Retreat sponsored by <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com/">Baskets of Yarn</a> from Charlotte, NC.<br /><br />While there were classes galore, the only time I had to snap photos was during dinner in the evenings, so my photos are fairly specific <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg34GzXqY8j5sIKjOF_NljOS9wlWAuOSkIWOMkEF2-pYms6cqgF12ye2bCdnIIpfqOvl_Hru1g6z9A771Oi-lSALWG9S6ZhvuCQjdgW9wIvxBQos0n_Oio1m2OZ3BBr2TdZdun8m26rVt8/s1600-h/DSC_0076.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg34GzXqY8j5sIKjOF_NljOS9wlWAuOSkIWOMkEF2-pYms6cqgF12ye2bCdnIIpfqOvl_Hru1g6z9A771Oi-lSALWG9S6ZhvuCQjdgW9wIvxBQos0n_Oio1m2OZ3BBr2TdZdun8m26rVt8/s200/DSC_0076.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313905843806114178" border="0" /></a>to that time of day.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL_WDMyv1ZAvpgdee9lro1J5PnyAG0CXHvXw8-enZLa_AEkEPz1hxcpxCJDiUXBA4Xc0YkLCy6nA01T3vxqSwcKlNK8TXFr7X3KmNjYZabnt5yce27-dUPUokwQGxTRQVnsmneZhOA-3U/s1600-h/DSC_0062.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 261px; height: 172px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL_WDMyv1ZAvpgdee9lro1J5PnyAG0CXHvXw8-enZLa_AEkEPz1hxcpxCJDiUXBA4Xc0YkLCy6nA01T3vxqSwcKlNK8TXFr7X3KmNjYZabnt5yce27-dUPUokwQGxTRQVnsmneZhOA-3U/s200/DSC_0062.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313905497798048098" border="0" /></a><br />We had some new teachers this time: Tricia Fagley, Patty Frame, and Glenda Tennis; and some who returned from years past: Lisa Kartus, Laura Guinan, <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQb6c8RTrM0tygNuhldCii5gUx2mPzIqYX7Z6qd12TmZ6HmAHOt7q8PIC9bBWs-Tz34ud_NPT8R5eUeJsLDK61Ll1GJCAIU87LTSHh2opC-QhxwMAv9sRcW17DsEXQh0kSlJ0DCWx5LC4/s1600-h/DSC_0064.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 228px; height: 153px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQb6c8RTrM0tygNuhldCii5gUx2mPzIqYX7Z6qd12TmZ6HmAHOt7q8PIC9bBWs-Tz34ud_NPT8R5eUeJsLDK61Ll1GJCAIU87LTSHh2opC-QhxwMAv9sRcW17DsEXQh0kSlJ0DCWx5LC4/s200/DSC_0064.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313908859862896802" border="0" /></a>Sue Dial, Betsey and me. A few knitters had to lather on some sunburn cream that evening and the next day.<br /><br />Annual Pajama Party night on Friday brought out the creativity in several knitters. We even viewed knitting needles with lights in one person's costume! It's amazing how inspired knitters are when it comes to "dressing for the occasion"!<br /><br />My favorite part of the weekend was the Sunday night pajama party, which started with a full-body massage for those who stayed the extra night. She was so adorable, no one could resist her engaging smile. And it was fun to welcome Maisie during her short visit. She was very glad to see her mommy!<br /><br />Seeing our favorite people from last year and meeting new friends is always an experience we can't forget. Laughing and crying together every day (sometimes the crying was just laughing so hard it brought tears to our eyes) made our memories even more special. Each year has its own special moments, and I always wonder if this year will be as much fun as last year was...and it never disappoints.Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-58446743720891956862009-03-03T21:00:00.003-05:002009-03-03T21:18:43.323-05:00Tribute to Daisy<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCBl2OGf9gN2zvadAyZH3enX17Ch0H_jB3RUskRyrj_5zNYIf3AUWbYO6ib-58EEVGiCiodKCTq4LXUman82c6fXlR_011-xyDrLCek5wuHXbenAsUmFq_QaJAB44ZL4UGkYtv4Ixml0/s1600-h/100-0005_IMG.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCBl2OGf9gN2zvadAyZH3enX17Ch0H_jB3RUskRyrj_5zNYIf3AUWbYO6ib-58EEVGiCiodKCTq4LXUman82c6fXlR_011-xyDrLCek5wuHXbenAsUmFq_QaJAB44ZL4UGkYtv4Ixml0/s200/100-0005_IMG.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309150461926821170" border="0" /></a>We lost our beloved pet, Daisy, today. There's never a dull moment, and if I ever think for one second that things are getting monotonous or boring--well, that's when God surprises me with something spectacular! He is awesome, isn't He?<br /><br />Our news is that we're having a wedding in the family!! My son, David, has found the love of his life in Ashley, and they are to be married on May 2. That's not a lot of time to plan a big wedding, but somehow it's getting done. Ashley is an amazing young woman, and David is blessed to have found her--and we are blessed to add her to our family. We wish them all the best and pray that God will bless their union.<br /><br />In addition to that "little tidbit" I am packing for the <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com">2009 Winter Retreat</a> in Boone next week. Printing patterns, making up notebooks, knitting swatches and samples, making list after list after list--where did I put those dpn's?? and what did I do with that black yarn I was going to make into.....??? Here's one of the technique classes I'll be teaching. We'll be adding beads to our knitting. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp8tQ8bFzUttemjPgcIM8H7Ba_atQTiLcgGrqTEZog02BegU-YdoWaVDPnCWvuy3JYy9DnBiJSfORT2SPU6Ka5vzSZstR29INHZFKVl-XXPQxPg5bpSnLuoNKFTAT8uKZIWIot59KGtzw/s1600-h/DSC_0034.JPG"> <img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp8tQ8bFzUttemjPgcIM8H7Ba_atQTiLcgGrqTEZog02BegU-YdoWaVDPnCWvuy3JYy9DnBiJSfORT2SPU6Ka5vzSZstR29INHZFKVl-XXPQxPg5bpSnLuoNKFTAT8uKZIWIot59KGtzw/s200/DSC_0034.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307682848194453474" border="0" /></a> And here is a block I've knitted for one of the charity projects at the Retreat: <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVtxa-50FtA1skQNLWkod7pW4GyYRWfE3tcATKmer_Co2QblEj2LtQdbomQsoYbK9wxAEQfDj8gvUepXyUg6Eb1VqvoGJW74yPANpPR_MklMuXfwUTsWkao7WozSc_xIBbVQh3MvqOZrk/s1600-h/DSC_0014.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 143px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVtxa-50FtA1skQNLWkod7pW4GyYRWfE3tcATKmer_Co2QblEj2LtQdbomQsoYbK9wxAEQfDj8gvUepXyUg6Eb1VqvoGJW74yPANpPR_MklMuXfwUTsWkao7WozSc_xIBbVQh3MvqOZrk/s200/DSC_0014.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307682852789705250" border="0" /></a> And here's one of the blocks from the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Great American Aran Afghan</span>, a big project at the Retreat: <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-JM0uVAkZBP9zxJx2pOay7NiE-Oen9Fuhyf045h9eQdazaqR4aGxW87qLqq-ukrd1KKS7tSAMZYLyFvurWo5ZwYex90UOateN3zS3GXMh6hd-22t2kKPoLAeGOh1JXZV-23TFfDBicOU/s1600-h/DSC_0007.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-JM0uVAkZBP9zxJx2pOay7NiE-Oen9Fuhyf045h9eQdazaqR4aGxW87qLqq-ukrd1KKS7tSAMZYLyFvurWo5ZwYex90UOateN3zS3GXMh6hd-22t2kKPoLAeGOh1JXZV-23TFfDBicOU/s200/DSC_0007.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307682859022685442" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQuY8jltS7rWH9pa6yYJ8GbuBLYOYpNR2n-JCD60tn3VT3y4D_TlGd5AlyrpSQXRDB3M8wV2mwRI-SklWCcBBtR0i_ap5rHpOw0RuLi2JKSihherifzHLLlZzTWOFgxTuDyxoy5mTopBE/s1600-h/DSC_0010.JPG"> </a><br />and here's another block from the <span style="font-weight: bold;">GAAA</span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQuY8jltS7rWH9pa6yYJ8GbuBLYOYpNR2n-JCD60tn3VT3y4D_TlGd5AlyrpSQXRDB3M8wV2mwRI-SklWCcBBtR0i_ap5rHpOw0RuLi2JKSihherifzHLLlZzTWOFgxTuDyxoy5mTopBE/s1600-h/DSC_0010.JPG">:</a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQuY8jltS7rWH9pa6yYJ8GbuBLYOYpNR2n-JCD60tn3VT3y4D_TlGd5AlyrpSQXRDB3M8wV2mwRI-SklWCcBBtR0i_ap5rHpOw0RuLi2JKSihherifzHLLlZzTWOFgxTuDyxoy5mTopBE/s1600-h/DSC_0010.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQuY8jltS7rWH9pa6yYJ8GbuBLYOYpNR2n-JCD60tn3VT3y4D_TlGd5AlyrpSQXRDB3M8wV2mwRI-SklWCcBBtR0i_ap5rHpOw0RuLi2JKSihherifzHLLlZzTWOFgxTuDyxoy5mTopBE/s200/DSC_0010.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307682863472027010" border="0" /></a> I plan to take many pictures to post when I return. And a glorious week at that! I started the actual knitting of the <a href="http://http//www.stitchesmarket.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=6462&cat=214&page=2">Great American Aran Afghan </a>a week ago and have completed 2 of the blocks, except for the actual 'blocking', which I plan to demonstrate at the <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com/">Baskets of Yarn 2009 Winter Retreat </a>next month. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHwL_UO6iO1cgWGz-iLYAbQZEGilbun6oywORp4ro_mYbGQkLqsf66mynplxAJsw10g0EgDzXF0c-JHykU2nXuzDFDiN0fC0Y2Cc89eMOV7oP-6rIc_H1cBNiW1oKnHuvpvmNslB93WlU/s1600-h/DSC_0012.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300643776336606674" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 133px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHwL_UO6iO1cgWGz-iLYAbQZEGilbun6oywORp4ro_mYbGQkLqsf66mynplxAJsw10g0EgDzXF0c-JHykU2nXuzDFDiN0fC0Y2Cc89eMOV7oP-6rIc_H1cBNiW1oKnHuvpvmNslB93WlU/s200/DSC_0012.JPG" border="0" /></a>My class on the afghan will include the various cables and other stitches used to knit the afghan, as well as how to read the charts and how to make the charts easier to understand. I'm very excited about knitting this project, and having completed the first two blocks gives me a lot of confidence that I will be able to finish it by May, which is my goal. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl6cjJ9BG-vChvOCK_Kt0OJTWYzv8KJHXZxRMzVkp60JqeuO0K9su9LWkdUTvg2yKC99dmLA_U3Rz8ja7W_GkXN1ljcKLl0LxDwRvvdBPiZygoBrbD0rwOYcnOxFNhuZXufDK0fuzIphU/s1600-h/DSC_0007.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300643783653847986" style="WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 133px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl6cjJ9BG-vChvOCK_Kt0OJTWYzv8KJHXZxRMzVkp60JqeuO0K9su9LWkdUTvg2yKC99dmLA_U3Rz8ja7W_GkXN1ljcKLl0LxDwRvvdBPiZygoBrbD0rwOYcnOxFNhuZXufDK0fuzIphU/s200/DSC_0007.JPG" border="0" /></a>I have chosen the recipient of the finished product, but I do not want to reveal the name just yet.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div></div><div>Saturday at the Baskets of Yarn shop I took a class with Sue Dial, the Wet Felted Rose. I can't believe how long it has been since I've posted. To those of you who read my blog, I'm truly sorry to be so lax. I recently attended the <a href="http://margsouth.tripod.com/">2009 Myrtle Beach Quilt Party</a> and one of the instructors, Cathy Bogan, told me she reads my blog. Shock and surprise! Well, it reminded me that "if you post it on the internet, they will read it" (remember Kevin Costner's 'voice' in "Field of Dreams"?), so I promise to be more faithful to the blog.<br /><br />Let's see, since my last post I've been to SAFF, celebrated Thanksgiving (in Florida with my son and his family), watched my grandson play in a baseball tournament at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, celebrated Christmas at home with my children, attended the Quilting and Needlearts Extravaganza in Statesville, NC, and attended the Myrtle Beach Quilt Party in South Carolina.<br /><br />I've also completed quite a few projects since I last posted: a number of Quilter's Tote Bags, the Wall Street cabled vest (Elizabeth Zimmerman design) for DH, the A-Line Jacket from <span style="font-weight: bold;">Runway Knits</span> for my mother (who did not particularly care for it), a beaded and felted purse for my niece (never heard one way or the other),a purple Popular Girls Shawl (owner is yet to be determined), <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiawvDxXrNaPuxe6lzmIAQK6tWELQkrU2cuVfyGhiNRL8DAahEz3ikOlho0mcJIGgIDMwQqUPrWoFs_JC55xsDQbAJ9ThBce-Yp31tw8v6yAWIjcxwgaL5VbY6iKhLm6I9jhGLoMokmPPE/s1600-h/DSC_0016.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiawvDxXrNaPuxe6lzmIAQK6tWELQkrU2cuVfyGhiNRL8DAahEz3ikOlho0mcJIGgIDMwQqUPrWoFs_JC55xsDQbAJ9ThBce-Yp31tw8v6yAWIjcxwgaL5VbY6iKhLm6I9jhGLoMokmPPE/s200/DSC_0016.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296688944007810802" border="0" /></a> and a felted heart-shaped purse knitted with mitered squares for my dear friend Sonja (who loves it). I'll be teaching the mitered square purse class at <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com">Baskets of Yarn</a> on February 7--appropriate for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday, right?<br /><br />I also learned with the help of my friend Sue Dial how to make this beautiful necklace:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7phQXhKQqwNW_UpsYg81LU0nRden1S2YEkRWf29l4wXHZwzlzkkyEOF0lJHjoJ9hZ02dvop76wpxSisSzZisAy-uvEIiXjNb9yic1-w2YmsGwrKjV8vyxvkaJElXzIfN5UVFgE9kYqhQ/s1600-h/DSC_0004.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7phQXhKQqwNW_UpsYg81LU0nRden1S2YEkRWf29l4wXHZwzlzkkyEOF0lJHjoJ9hZ02dvop76wpxSisSzZisAy-uvEIiXjNb9yic1-w2YmsGwrKjV8vyxvkaJElXzIfN5UVFgE9kYqhQ/s320/DSC_0004.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296685476297049506" border="0" /></a><br />Hammered silver-plated wire and lots of beads resulted in a really beautiful piece of jewelry, don't you agree? It was lots of fun, too, hammering that wire--very therapeutic! Sue is an amazing artist and fearless when it comes to trying new things. I'm blessed to call her 'friend.'<br /><br />The Myrtle Beach trip was fantastic! Soooooo much fun! We had a group of 6 women staying in a 3-bedroom condo that had closets bigger than my office. We had lots of room to spread out and relax, and that we did! We took quilt classes, ate in local restaurants, shopped in the local craft stores (beads, scrapbooking, fabric) and laughed and laughed (which is the main reason I go at all). The only pitfall was that my DDIL came down with a stomach virus on Friday evening (after dinner at Carrabbas) and spent a miserable night running to the bathroom. Poor thing! She missed her Saturday class and ended up going home Saturday evening before the banquet. We missed her, but we all understood how sick she felt and how much she wanted to be in her own bed. Next year is the 20th year for the <a href="http://margsouth.tripod.com/">party</a>, and it should be great fun. I've already started researching the property where it will be held next year. Mardelle, the hostess, always does us proud.<br /><br />My sock project (2 socks at one time, toe-up, on circular needles) is going great guns, thanks to my sock-wizard instructor Trish at <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com">Baskets of Yarn</a>. I'm knitting a pair of socks from a hand-dyed sock blank that was dyed by my son Lucas. He keeps insisting that he'll actually wear them, but I'm not-too-secretly hoping they'll 'accidentally' end up in my sock drawer. Here they are in progress:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhepFniB2pWhWzsf6CecwQreZpnAz8-oZus_04LPSwXvhJ7NB0BJu7qpziLN9FEYeT6yMt2gfU-Fs0m-EfN5_tqbdacI4XbunbdK5hyphenhyphengcEg1HkBN-XrjGIFC0MymGH1Az3Li2XIjMMLeec/s1600-h/DSC_0021.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhepFniB2pWhWzsf6CecwQreZpnAz8-oZus_04LPSwXvhJ7NB0BJu7qpziLN9FEYeT6yMt2gfU-Fs0m-EfN5_tqbdacI4XbunbdK5hyphenhyphengcEg1HkBN-XrjGIFC0MymGH1Az3Li2XIjMMLeec/s200/DSC_0021.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296688941702701810" border="0" /> </a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3iwnfcyEt3GgCOxRijZJtTrLSPDcuKCBSolQ9z7Px_cyQTmcWWjoAd5K1hFmwl7M8fiawcDMdv2Tg0PxtRh906U6iD08tToGVP43TSgYZLxTyMr7kMQzbMnqXZhm4p4Q49Ku1Mvnfio/s1600-h/DSC_0023.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3iwnfcyEt3GgCOxRijZJtTrLSPDcuKCBSolQ9z7Px_cyQTmcWWjoAd5K1hFmwl7M8fiawcDMdv2Tg0PxtRh906U6iD08tToGVP43TSgYZLxTyMr7kMQzbMnqXZhm4p4Q49Ku1Mvnfio/s200/DSC_0023.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296688942232719570" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Another knitting project that is very exciting to me is a beaded scarf that I just designed. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicFp2SfiP-v9dH37tC4njdowMH_WjWDmxakeosVVcg9LLGPRM6Ho258hrwH4_oxMnXwV5rAqkF2e0yXcgRHOFoQijj58AXeBI20iRpGGLvSC99UWiTLyHk9wufmhdq5pUKOQNw551za9I/s1600-h/DSC_0012.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicFp2SfiP-v9dH37tC4njdowMH_WjWDmxakeosVVcg9LLGPRM6Ho258hrwH4_oxMnXwV5rAqkF2e0yXcgRHOFoQijj58AXeBI20iRpGGLvSC99UWiTLyHk9wufmhdq5pUKOQNw551za9I/s200/DSC_0012.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296688946222354770" border="0" /></a> Here it is in progress. I'm scheduled to teach this at <a href="http://www.basketsofyarn.com">Baskets of Yarn</a> on February 7, and I know it will be great fun. It's truly a piece of jewelry, so heavy with beads. I can't wait to show it off!<br /><br />This gives a brief synopsis of my activities since the last post. I hope to get back more often and fill you in. I hope you will let me know what you are up to these days.Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-66030462300647050522008-10-28T22:12:00.006-04:002008-10-28T23:57:33.857-04:002008 Fall Quilting Retreat<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZxj45FhK5DbBQwp-Ayvf94mnreC_C0MX7gyTcVuW_RWyVw7iFLFMHN5qrKiJzwo7Y9K3eFGwsUSxu1R7Ufscb8UsrHTMg1T74Lp4JQmkmRqnaFgFLUHjo5adq6cc93ZPs6RztgxzlqU/s1600-h/Mountain+Quilt+Party+October+08003.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 274px; height: 205px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZxj45FhK5DbBQwp-Ayvf94mnreC_C0MX7gyTcVuW_RWyVw7iFLFMHN5qrKiJzwo7Y9K3eFGwsUSxu1R7Ufscb8UsrHTMg1T74Lp4JQmkmRqnaFgFLUHjo5adq6cc93ZPs6RztgxzlqU/s200/Mountain+Quilt+Party+October+08003.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262418419604034834" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:180%;" >We reall</span><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-size:180%;">y made</span> lemonade</span> out of lemons this year. This year our one-week hideaway is at Beech Mountain in the beautiful and majestic Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. We have 11 quilters this year, a record number, and it's our first time in the mountains. We have rented a large 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom cabin that will sleep 13. Meals are planned, as well as kitchen detail, classes, shopping excursions, and lots of time for sewing, knitting, crafting, and relaxing. We are taking sewing machines, lamps, ironing boards (and irons), tables and chairs. It will be a "sweat shop without the sweat", and lots of laughs to go along.<br /><br />Be sure to attend <a href="http://www.saffsite.org./">SAFF</a> this year to see my Quilted Knitter's Tote Bag. It will first be released for sale in Sue Dial's booth, Clay Cat/Harvest Moon Handspun at SAFF on October 24.<br /><br />I hope your fall is healthy and prosperous. With the gasoline shortage, banks failing, and stock market crashing life seems shaky at best these days. Let's remember to pray. And don't forget to vote in November!Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8823150036550604668.post-73626465738709307032008-09-18T07:26:00.005-04:002008-09-18T08:03:50.570-04:00Fall Is Upon Us<span style="font-size:180%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">It's that wonderful time of year</span></span>--cool evenings and mornings with sunshine and warmth in the afternoon. The kind of days you want to spend outdoors every single minute. Open the windows, air out the stuffy house, pull out all that luscious wool and sort the sweater patterns. And, if you're like me, get to the quilting stage on that unfinished quilt top!<br /><br />I managed to 'sandwich' 2 quilt tops last week that I intend to get quilted very soon. One of them I plan to take with me on my "Beech Mountain Quilting Retreat" the first week of October, the other is a gift for my youngest son that I hope to give him for Christmas.<br /><br />I've also started a very special project that I've been mulling over for months: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Knitters' Tote Bags.</span> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZOKamEY70CNDQ9F-y5T-SpAC6SRd5U_eQf1dwStARKuj4RYkSkp_5Rrz9pBxeR5nlwV173PNWXnRdzTB-_kLAMjBBTpghcvENq2ILtrFfl7HpSXYy8mwWOOXIkp392DyhQ0kQ1dvVD7s/s1600-h/DSC_0169.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 130px; height: 87px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZOKamEY70CNDQ9F-y5T-SpAC6SRd5U_eQf1dwStARKuj4RYkSkp_5Rrz9pBxeR5nlwV173PNWXnRdzTB-_kLAMjBBTpghcvENq2ILtrFfl7HpSXYy8mwWOOXIkp392DyhQ0kQ1dvVD7s/s200/DSC_0169.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247323599031147042" border="0" /></a>They are just starting in the production stage of the cycle, having been in the concept and <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVQe1jX5K3Gvp2CYvluDTvizSTJVCqIX4RDUNowQGxBOO4Z1x73peJfKo8hY-rw10P3yg5R2xu7xBnD34MJp3Nd1zBb9GK0zRB_dh3VN1Ven-gnUYe9SzfK6J-LxGbVca8rV8waYOqmSc/s1600-h/DSC_0166.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 130px; height: 88px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVQe1jX5K3Gvp2CYvluDTvizSTJVCqIX4RDUNowQGxBOO4Z1x73peJfKo8hY-rw10P3yg5R2xu7xBnD34MJp3Nd1zBb9GK0zRB_dh3VN1Ven-gnUYe9SzfK6J-LxGbVca8rV8waYOqmSc/s200/DSC_0166.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247325932642001970" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ge0oBeUWb5lZYDXV0vNWtUPgffOJb04YciPsFYvqsiB8rMIy8tyeUt4S4CAXk44JuZSH1a_D7okb51G25-05O_VzAiktcRFv8n5yYfm3d15keZuMKrtgHf5T6iPZQmPFMCUUIQZlovU/s1600-h/DSC_0168.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 138px; height: 92px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ge0oBeUWb5lZYDXV0vNWtUPgffOJb04YciPsFYvqsiB8rMIy8tyeUt4S4CAXk44JuZSH1a_D7okb51G25-05O_VzAiktcRFv8n5yYfm3d15keZuMKrtgHf5T6iPZQmPFMCUUIQZlovU/s200/DSC_0168.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247325948160385394" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-bkoBNAURHfnGRY-9foTO-Tzx3jJ960rFjs0UImWdW9l0g87uvO-41I55AoB0LXOIN826gPz1W4IM5CpPJYbJCSI0W_OgkV2a-eX2acEc3CTCDMC_CzT9jvBE3YnfQ4bpOudpJRUZec8/s1600-h/DSC_0171.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 137px; height: 91px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-bkoBNAURHfnGRY-9foTO-Tzx3jJ960rFjs0UImWdW9l0g87uvO-41I55AoB0LXOIN826gPz1W4IM5CpPJYbJCSI0W_OgkV2a-eX2acEc3CTCDMC_CzT9jvBE3YnfQ4bpOudpJRUZec8/s200/DSC_0171.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247325935876008114" border="0" /></a>design stages for far too long. I look forward to November for so many reasons: spending less $ on gasoline is just one of them. Cooler temperatures, knitting by the fireplace, cooking stews and soups for dinner, electing a new president, and spending Thanksgiving with my family are more reasons, and not necessarily in that order.Quilter300http://www.blogger.com/profile/08713499396728967595noreply@blogger.com0
